Our OFF GRID Solar System

Jeremy takes you through the off grid solar system that is on the property we purchased. He goes over the battery bank, charge controller, inverter, solar panels, does some testing. He also covers some of the household items we are trying to run and some possible changes we need to make. Also stay tuned to the end of the video for some special thank you’s!

  1. Hi Jaime,

I am new to your channel, I love your guys videos, the are very professional. On your voltage measurements, at the panels are you taking Open Circuit (OC) measurements ? Since you have PWS solar controller the voltage will never be higher than the battery voltage, so the batteries will pull the Close Circuit voltage of you panels down to 12.5 (battery voltage), and you will not get full power from you panels. MPPT controller is the way to go, and put all you panels in Series to get high voltage since you have a long run and small gauge of wire.

For Batteries, you may want to look at what I did, but you can get them even cheaper than I did. I put Lithium Ion Batteries from a Chevy Volt. I bought them from a guy that converted them to 12 volt which works good for RV. I am not very good at writing, if you would like to talk email me you phone # and good time to call.

I haven’t updated my blog in sometime, and it is geared around my RV, but I have a Residential Fridge in my RV and 840 Watts of solar, 800 AH of batteries. and a Hybrid Inverter. Since you have the space, you could buy a new Chevy Volt Lithium Battery Pack and covert it to the voltage you need. Packs are around 18 KV. New packs can be bought for around $2500 + $500 shipping.

For Solar look at March 2015
    for Lithium Batteries March 2016
Invert and new battery layout see picture below, I never got around to updating my blog.
