Monthly Chicken Coop Cleaning

It’s time to clean the backyard chicken coop! In this video we show how we clean out our mobile chicken coop on a monthly (ish) basis.

What We Use to Clean the Coop:
Pine Shavings – purchased locally
Sweet PDZ – purchased locally
Diatomaceous Earth – purchased in bulk from Azure

Special thanks to my amazing 12-yo videographer for patiently shooting and re-shooting this footage with 4-wheelers going by and airplanes flying overhead :0)

UPDATE: We now use the electric fence at night due to some foxy visitors on our property

Can you please share the recipe for your coop freshener? I see it has peppermint soap, lavender oil, water and I think you said alcohol. Can you share the actual recipe?

I really enjoy your videos, we recently purchased some acreage and are starting our chicken endeavor!

    Thank you!

I really don’t have a recipe. It is about 1 tsp alcohol then I add about 10-20 drops of lavender essential oil, then shake. Then about a tbsp of dr bronner peppermint soap and then I fill the bottle with water. I sometimes use dr bronners lavender soap and then peppermint oil. Just depends what I have on hand. Hope that helps!
